I've been preparing to lecture a unit on leadership over the last couple of days. The first couple of weeks is spent reviewing some of the great leaders of the Bible and some fine leaders throughout history. So I thought I'd throw it out there. Butter up with two separate Top 5's: one for biblical leaders and another for giants of leadership through history.
As far as criteria goes, the only criteria is that you consider them a leader. Feel free to add words of clarification or even what you admire about their leadership but, like any leader, don't feel that it's a particular stereotype of leadership that qualifies them for a list like this.

Top 5: Leaders of the Bible, Leaders of the World

BIBLE LEADERS:
1) J Christ - say no more. Servant leadership personnified.
2)Moses - most humble guy around according to Bible. Humility is good as we model servant leadership.
3) King David - I love a guy who has confidence in God that he took on a 9 foot monster with just a sling. Oh yeah, it was really cool that he was so human he ballsed up so much but was so vulnerable with God that he threw himself on God's mercy. That's where so many Psalms came from.
4) Apostle Paul - This fella could teach/preach etc quite well. Almost as good as Creflo Dollar!(teehee). Did the hard yards first up and I value people who have done it hard, come from one extreme into another. Kind of like a Freo supporter seeing the light on Rokeby Road and deciding to follow the ways of Woosha.
5) Hosea - A good leader is an excellent follower. He set an amazing example in all he was asked to do by God. Incarnational prophetic leadership/modelling.
WORLD LEADERS
1) William Booth. Good methodist boy and founder of the Salvos. He's a world changer and I rate them as leaders. Don't really have to say more really but check out http://www.steveaddison.net/2006/03/31/lights-in-darkest-england.html or http://ctlibrary.com/print.html?id=4552 for brief history.
2) John Wesley - Another good methodist boy. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wesley for why I rate him. It's his life story.
3) Martin Luther King Jr - modern hero. Flawed, like all good leaders, but so strongly stuck to his convictions and cause that he was martyred for it. Changed the world as well.
4) Abraham Lincoln - Another man who stood by his convictions that were brought on by his compassion.
5) Mother Theresa - she probably would dispute that she was a leader. Self sacrifice and compassion seem to be good leadership qualities, practising what one preaches.
Gidiup Mikey. When I get to putting up my bunch of leader-folk, I will have a 50% congruence with your list.
A little disappointed that Ben Cousins wasn't on the list. After all, he is the spiritual leader of the Eagles so may have qualified for either list.
Yeah well, I took it seriously. I was thinking J Worsfold since he handled the whole Cuz thing very well and has led us from the footy wilderness.
Then there was C Judd who led us to our first Brownlow medal.
Anyway.... K Sheedy maybe as a footy legend!!! Nah, got to be serious for once.
